Ua is the best dog in the world, Canon Digital Rebel
This is our dog friend Ua (means rain in Hawaiian) who has been our almost constant companion this trip. Below is a little cat we met at a roadside coconut candy stand on the Hana highway.

2 things (of many) I love about Hana:
1. The sun rises over the ocean. This totally freaked me out. I thought the whole world had turned upside down.
2. The cows come with their very own pet egret. Really. They do. Everywhere you look are cows grazing with their little pet egrets by their side. It is totally adorable.

andrea! i want to see the cows, and it won’t let me!
Me too!!!!
ooohhhhh! so lovely!
what great horns those cows have. moon-gazing horns…
as always, i find your photos beautifully crafted and touching…
but that one of the little cat just steals my heart. So wonderful.
I love cows with pet egrets!
These photos will give you so many smiles when you look at the in six months time, you’ll remember exactly how happy and relaxed you are right now.
Hana sounds just dreamy… I can see why your friends moved there.
I want to go back to Hawaii. I haven’t been in 21 years (I was 7) and considering my passion for surfing and my love of beauty I am definitely due for a visit soon.
Gorgeous photos – I love the cow one, and the dog looks so sweet!!
That sounds like South Africa – with the sun rising over the ocean and the cows with their own egrets 🙂
love egrets!
Last time I was in Hawaii, we made a point of traveling from an east-facing beach to a west-facing beach in the middle of the day.
That way, we saw the sun rise AND set over the ocean in the same day!
i’m so glad to finally see what an egret looks like. mary oliver is always mentioning them in her poetry and although i assumed it was a bird i had never seen one.
My cat’s name is Meka (which is Hawaiian for ‘eyes’). She is all black and has the greenest eyes ever. It’s pretty neat to see her in another room, under an object and because she’s so black you can kind of make out where she is… then she blinks and she disappears.
My siberian huskies name is Kiko… which in Hawaiian means ‘spot’.
Beautiful pictures as usual!
Ua is just adorable.
