Went to our friend Larry’s farm this weekend and soaked up the sun, rode bicycles around town, pet horses, met a goat named Abby, sat in walnut groves, ate popsicles, and got chased by a dog. My friend Susan even got zapped by an electric fence. Oops. (I was about a centimeter away from it at that moment, my camera between the wires, clueless, trying to get a donkey to grin at me.)
I am always amazed to leave the city and discover that the air smells different in the country. It was so fragrant, damp and smoky out there and by night, the stars were like wild bulbs in the sky. (We don’t get to see stars very often.)
The best part was riding in Larry’s tractor at dusk out to the rope swing and pond. The sunset was so pink and luminous and the water so still, that the pond created a perfect mirror. I’m sure the sunset was admiring itself that night.
I totally agree – getting out of the city and really enjoying the country is so wonderful and rejuvenating! I want to see the photo of the smiling donkey 🙂
Lucky you – I’m still sipping hot cappuccinos and hot chocolate and bundling up wherever I go. Sounds like a fun weekend. Where was the farm?
I’m excited for spring. I still have snow on the ground and the trees are still bare from root to tip(ha ha ha- that saying is from a commercial).
One thing we do have that you have is the beautiful bright stars at night.
smiling donkey how funny. I went to the flower show this past weekend here in boston made me think i need a tropical vacation perhaps a countryside in london within a lavendar field or a hill in hawaii for the birds of paradise flowers. thanks for your daily inspiration to explore my inner child 😉
Jen,
the farm was near Davis, California. A place
called Capay Valley… a few wineries are out there. It is beautiful.
how cute… you even make being zapped by an electric fence sound charming. Your weekend sounds just lovely. Beautiful picture.
Your words paint such a lovely picture of your visit to the country. What a great weekend getaway. I look forward to you posting more beautiful pictures of your weekend….I love the photo of the purple flowers.
There is so much that I love about Florida in the Spring time – it is absolutely my favorite season. Of course, I don’t have much else to base life on…I love the smell of orange blossoms and azaleas. And I love it that there are still places out there where you can still see a clear night for what it really is. I’m glad that there are others out there that can see that as well!
